Born and grew up in Orlais

Was urged to join the Templars like his best friend Cecil, but chose the path of a Grey Warden like his father, instead.

A child bully, enjoyed beating up Cecil as a boy

His father died of the Calling when Kain was a young teen, he and Cecil were raised by a nobleman

Warrior with reaver specialization

In love with a spirit healer: his other good friend, Rosa, who is in turn in love with Cecil instead.

Accidental killing of a village: Joined Cecil on a Templar mission which ended badly, in the deaths of all the mages there (they'd been summoning demons- or at least accused of it), argued with Cecil but they saved the sole survivor, Lida

Kain was mind controlled by powerful blood mage, Golbezza, who was in turn possessed by a demon, Zemus. Under the influence of this magic, he did terrible things, including betray his closest friends.

Goes back and forth between betrayal and loyalty, stealing important plot items from the party

Not long after he joined, the Wardens were dealing with a particularly nasty circle of demon summoners/blood mages, who were a splinter group related to Golbezza/Zemus. Things got desperate at one point, and Kain and his friend Lior made a crazy plan to save them, which seemingly involved Kain betraying a few of his Warden friends. (Basically, Kain knocked them out to stop them from going to a battle where they would surely all be controlled). Cosmina allowed the plan to go on eventually, though, when she became aware.

Together with his group of new Warden recruits at Montsimmard Fortress, and led by the Senior Warden Cosmina, Kain and the others defeated Khaos and his forces. Unfortunately, many of its prominent members escaped, even if the leader, Khaos, was killed. It was still a great victory for the Wardens at the time. Kain and the other newcomers all suffered terrible injuries as a result of that battle.



Allies and Enemies

Baron Richaud Ventfort: Kain's father, a Grey Warden like him, died by the Calling when Kain was young

Baron Odinne: Kain's adoptive father, he also generally raised Kain before that, while his father went off with the Wardens. He was a close family friend to the Ventforts, and also adopted Cecil.

Cecil: a warrior with Templar specialization, grew up with Kain as his best friend, they were raised together by a nobleman since both had lost their parents

Rosalie: a Spirit Healer circle mage who Kain is deeply in love with, Cecil is her constant protector and much more than that, like Kain and Cecil, comes from nobility so has been allowed away from the circle

Lida: an apostate Rift Mage from a village of Rift Mage apostates who all specialzied in summoning forth good spirits from the fade, has strong command of offensive elemental magic as well. Her village was burned by Cecil and Kain under the false belief that they were dangerous blood mages summoning demons.

Edouard "Edge" Geraldine: a rogue and young Orlesian nobleman, flirtatious and bold

Edouard Chris von Muir: a bard, but surprisingly cowardly for someone in his role, another Orlesian noble, still a loyal ally

Yann: a respectful unarmed fighter, very devoted to the chantry

Sheila: Yann's wife, wields a frying pan

Paulon: a child prodigy mage, Porun's troublesome twin

Porun: a child prodigy mage, Paulon's well-behaved twin

Cid Polenta: an engineer/inventor with the Artificer specialization, known to be eccentric, another noble who's close with Cecil, Rosa, and Kain: killed in the fighting in Orlais, November 2018

Golbezza: a blood mage who mind controlled Kain in the past, he was a survivor of the burned apostate settlement and out for revenge (though he was always doing creepy experiments before that, which he kept secret)

Zemus: the demon who possessed Golbezza

Tayil: a powerful old mage, died casting a massive spell to help his allies

Fusoya: blood relative of Cecil (his uncle), a wise old mage

Giott: a dwarven noble who Kain knows well

Luca: daughter of Giott

Biggs: a noble's son who grew up with Kain and Cecil, became a Templar with Cecil: killed in the fighting in Orlais, November 2018

Wedge: another noble's son who grew up with Kain and Cecil, became a Templar with Cecil: killed in the fighting in Orlais, November 2018

Ser Baigan: a Chevalier, a loyal knight considered the champion of the Orlesian Heartlands, well liked and respected by all: killed in the fighting in Orlais, November 2018

Coria Agarta: an astronomer, very into the Astrariums, taught Kain a lot about constellations, noblewoman who was friends with Kain and Cecil's families (changed to female in this AU)

Kokkol: a surface dwarven blacksmith who originally owned Bastard, hasn't been seen or heard from in a long time

Warriors of Cosmos = Fellow Wardens he's worked with over the years

Cosmina: Kain's first Senior Warden commander, a very experienced fighter

Clara "Tempest": a stern but loyal Warden who joined at the same time as Kain, in his first training group, career military

Vahan: an enthusiastic, spirited young man who joined the Wardens with Kain in his first training group, former pirate

Laegan: a goofy comic relief and chilled out guy, joined the Wardens and was in Kain's first training group

Juna: a serious mage lady who joined the Wardens with Kain and was in that same first training group

Tifara: a bare fist fighter, she also joined the Wardens and was part of his initial training group

Lior: joined the Wardens just before Kain, someone who Kain confides in and trusts, moved up the ranks to become a Senior Warden and Cosmina's second in command, very leaderly

Bartek: a Warden who joined after Kain, in the group Kain "betrayed"

Faron: a Warden who joined after Kain, in the group Kain "betrayed"

Zaydan: a Warden who joined after Kain, in the group Kain "betrayed"

Terrah: a soft spoken lonely young lady but a powerful mage, joined the Wardens some time after Kain

Jegede: joined the Wardens a long time before Kain did, often a source of advice

Onofre "The Garlic Knight": a young Warden who joined after Kain, in the group Kain "betrayed", started at Montsimmard the last year Kain was there so he's still quite young and less battle hardened than most

Gust: a Warden who joined after Kain, in the group Kain "betrayed"

Gibran: has a dark past but became a Warden sometime before Kain, someone Kain looks up to

"The Archfiends" = Enemies, a group of Golbezza's henchmen who went by the code name of Archfiends, all powerful and dangerous mages, statuses unknown

Kevka: an absolutely insane member of Khaos' forces, status unknown, but it's presumed he joined Corypheus's side

Claudya "The Darkness": a dark woman mage, member of Khaos' forces, status unknown, but it's presumed she joined Corypheus's side

Cirrus: a brooding young man who was part of Khaos' whole crew but defected to the Wardens afterward

Tidus: an upbeat young man who similarly started out with Khaos' forces, but also defected to the Wardens afterward
